A Homeworth team member spoke to Jameela Sayed, the face behind the famous Cooking and Baking Creations recipe books -The books that have turned many regular cooks into master chefs!
An inspiring woman who has proved that anything is possible if you have talent and determination! Winner of the WOMAN OF WONDER AWARD!
Her flop-proof, easy-to-follow recipes and simple ingredients have won hearts. Combined with her beautiful presentation and mouth-watering photographs of her masterpieces, her recipe books have been a huge success! She regularly receives wonderful feedback from grateful cooks who have learnt something different from her books.
In this day and age of Internet, hundreds of recipes can be found online. But when you choose to buy from a cookbook writer who has lots of experience, likes to experiment and has been passionate about cooking from a very young age, you cannot go wrong!
It was a delight to chat to her as she seemed quite friendly, down-to-earth and humble despite her success, yet she was very confident. A very attractive combination of qualities to possess!
Passionate about cooking since childhood, her story began on social media where she would daily post photos and recipes of her meals. She soon attracted attention and received a lot of great feedback and requests to publish a recipe book. Initially it started off as a joke but eventually she decided to fulfill the demand and has now published three recipe books in three years.
Social media is also the source of her inspiration to try and create new recipes. She believes one recipe can be tweaked to create a whole new one! There are endless possibilities.
Jameela Sayed, whose name means beautiful (which also reflects her personality I must say), is a mother of 3 and proudly a young grandmother of 3. She also feels blessed to have some amazing friends that support her. She grew up in Durban and later moved to Johannesburg, where she got married, but currently lives in the small beautiful town of Umzinto (South coast of KwaZulu-Natal).
She is a workaholic and enjoys working from home. She believes one can multi-task at home, as opposed to working a 9-5 day job which she previously did for 15 years. Her social life also keeps her rather occupied.
She seems to have a strong will power and gratitude towards The Lord for blessing her, which are essential qualities to succeed. When we asked her the secret to her success she replied, “If you can dream it, you can do it. Follow your passion! The sky is the limit. Never say never, anything and everything is possible!”
She also had a women empowering message:
“Do not waste your life. Go out there and fulfill your dreams. You can do it even without any academic qualifications!”
After all, winning the Woman of Wonder award is no piece of cake. Jameela was, in her own words, ‘as excited as a child’ to receive it and ‘still cannot believe’ that she won the award.
We hope her story will be an inspiration to many and that she will continue to deliver delicious recipes!

I have all three of books of Cooking & Baking Creations and I must say this book is such a delight. I do know the author Jameela Sayed personally and I can highly recommend the book not because she is a friend of mine it’s because her recipes are simple and flop proof. I have purchased the book also to introduce my son to learn the art of Indian cooking as he needed to hone his skills in the food industry as he is currently a 1st year hospitality student at a hotel school. It’s a very user friendly book and perfect for beginners. I urge all home chefs and professional chefs to purchase the book..the recipes are so AMAZING! Well done Jameela Sayed! You are certainly a woman of wonder!!
